Helena Bonham Carter wore human hair extensions – direct from the source

Hair extensions have come a long way. They are now very easy to use and look completely natural. However, back in the 1980s, it seems that human hair extensions weren’t quite so readily available. It has come to light that British actress Helena Bonham Carter wore hair extensions when she starred in the Oscar-winning film, ‘A Room with a View’ in 1985. However, what is more surprising is that the hair was cut from a long-haired male extra on the set!
Helena was just a teenager when she starred in the film alongside Dame Maggie Smith. The aspiring male actor whose locks she wore, Nick Knowles, went on to become a household name as a TV presenter. While doing his stint on the movie, he was in a rock band, so had really long hair. When he was offered £50 for his hair, he jumped at the chance to make a few extra pounds. Since the film went on to win three Academy Awards, Nick probably wishes he’d asked for a bit more!
