House of McQueen showcases quirky hair weaving
Posted by Jo Roberts on October 8, 2010

The Alexander McQueen fashion house premiered its spring/summer 2011 collection, as part of Paris Fashion Week: the first catwalk show since the designer’s death in February. McQueen was always known for his avant-garde designs, and he counted David Bowie, Björk and Lady Gaga among his biggest fans.
One of the most striking features of the show was the unique ‘basket weave’ hairstyle, donned by the McQueen models. The look was created by using hair extensions and weaving them in a manner which, according to stylist Guido Palau was “highly technical, yet very simple.”
The ‘woven’ effect was achieved by dividing the models’ hair into three sections before adding Remy hair extensions over and under natural strands, finishing each section with a thin braid. Back panels were also folded flat against the head and secured with pins.
According to one insider, no less than 60 bottles of hairspray were involved in constructing this head-turning ‘do.
