Summer Catwalk Trend: Braids

Posted by Jo Roberts on May 7, 2010

It's official: braids are back. The catwalks have been filled with waist-length plaits, usually draped casually over one shoulder – giving an old trend a new, asymmetric twist. Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu and Alexander Wang are just three of many designers who have featured this hairstyle at their shows.

You don't have to be a top fashion model to effortlessly recreate this look for yourself. Clip-in hair extensions can be used to great effect, with minimal fuss.

TV presenter and DJ Fearne Cotton showcased her own funky braid at the Brit Awards, which she worked on in February this year. Fearne’s braid mixed two colours of hair, using clip-in extensions which were wound into her own hair at the back. First off, her natural hair was set in large rollers to give some lift and movement, then the braid was dressed to the side to ensure it was in full view.

If you want to really be on-trend, then tease out sections of the hair all over – including on the braid itself – to give that slightly ‘shabby chic’ look which is set to be sizzling hot this summer.
