The shaggy braid, this season’s hottest look

Braids have been big news for a while now, but the twist this autumn is that they are getting messier!  Stars such as Cheryl Cole and Fearne Cotton are big fans of the chunky braid, using human hair extensions to give them more volume.  Gossip Girl star Blake Lively is the latest celebrity to work the look and she was pictured earlier this week sporting this braid on the red carpet at the launch of the Tiffany and Co eyewear line.

Not only does Blake Lively’s hairstyle look seriously hip, but it’s really easy to re-create yourself.  If your hair isn’t long enough, don’t worry because some clip-in hair extensions will give you the length you need in a matter of minutes. 

Work a small amount of texturizing cream, mousse or pomade through your hair to give it some light hold and definition.  Then, starting at the jawline, braid your hair loosely, allowing strands to fall out a little.  Secure the end with a clear elastic band, then pull the braid to one side.  Tease out some loose tendrils to frame your face and finish with a light hold hairspray – and you’re done!
