Use clip-in hair extensions to create a cool fishtail braid
Posted by Jo Roberts on October 26, 2011

Coloured clip-in hair extensions are hot property right now and braids are still high fashion- so why not go all out and combine the two? A few coloured hair extensions woven into a braid can create a really funky and eye-catching look.
To start with, select the clip-in hair extensions which take your fancy. You can go for a subtle effect with some highlights a couple of shades lighter than your usual colour, or you can be bold and try a bright colour, such as purple (which is great for autumn).
Here are the simple steps you need to follow to create a fishtail braid.
- Clip-in the hair extensions at the back of your hair, just above the nape of your neck.
- Part your hair down the middle, into two sections.
- Take a section of hair around half an inch in length from the very outer portion of the right section and cross it over so that it joins the left section.
- Repeat step 3 in reverse, taking a section of hair from the outer left and crossing it over so that it becomes part of the right section. You are effectively creating a ‘figure of 8’ pattern.
- Continue repeating steps 3 and 4 alternately, ensuring that you keep a firm grip on both sections of hair.
- Keep going – and you’ll notice how the strands of colour start peeking through randomly towards the bottom of the braid.
- Fasten the fishtail at the end and allow some tendrils of hair to fall around the face, to soften the overall look.
