Use clip-in hair extensions to create a cool fishtail braid

Coloured clip-in hair extensions are hot property right now and braids are still high fashion- so why not go all out and combine the two?  A few coloured hair extensions woven into a braid can create a really funky and eye-catching look.

To start with, select the clip-in hair extensions which take your fancy.  You can go for a subtle effect with some highlights a couple of shades lighter than your usual colour, or you can be bold and try a bright colour, such as purple (which is great for autumn).

Here are the simple steps you need to follow to create a fishtail braid.

  1. Clip-in the hair extensions at the back of your hair, just above the nape of your neck.
  2. Part your hair down the middle, into two sections.
  3. Take a section of hair around half an inch in length from the very outer portion of the right section and cross it over so that it joins the left section.
  4. Repeat step 3 in reverse, taking a section of hair from the outer left and crossing it over so that it becomes part of the right section. You are effectively creating a ‘figure of 8’ pattern.
  5. Continue repeating steps 3 and 4 alternately, ensuring that you keep a firm grip on both sections of hair.
  6. Keep going – and you’ll notice how the strands of colour start peeking through randomly towards the bottom of the braid.
  7. Fasten the fishtail at the end and allow some tendrils of hair to fall around the face, to soften the overall look.
